My Lancaster Medical Group Brochure

This is my final design for the Lancaster Medical Group brochure.

I have done a simple but effective front page with just one image, heading and logo. I think less is more on the front page so I left it simple.

The next page I thought would be a great 'About Us' section because I felt this was the most important section to persuade the readers that Lancaster Medical Group is a great company to work for and basically selling the company to them. I have split the page into half so that there is contrast between the images and text. I have used an image of happy employees here because it fit for purpose and visually communicates what the second page is about. I have used tick boxes and bullet points in one section instead of paragraphs and I have used icons to display what the text is referring to.

The third page I decided would be great to sell Lancaster as a place and why it's a great place to work in, it has some statistics which is currently in Lorem Ipsum, but would explain the facts and statistics about happiness of the locals of Lancaster and why the place is a great location. There will also be some text about the history of Lancaster, the university and landmarks.

Overall, I am happy with the outcome of my brochure because I think it visually communicates what the brochure is about and it prioritises the most important points. I think the balance between images, body text, bullet points, icons and headings is good. I have used the same colour in the logo throughout the brochure providing consistency. It definitely looks a lot more interesting to read compared to an A4 sheet of size 8 text.

Colour Scheme For Lancaster Medical Group

I really like the style of this brochure and I think the colour scheme is the main reason why it looks so good. For my brochure design, I would like to use the same photography style but instead of the striking blue, I would like to use the same orange from Lancaster Medical Groups logo. I think it would keep the branding consistent, without introducing any additional colours.

Magazine Inspiration

One of our briefs is a 12-page brochure for Lancaster Medical Group and I used Pinterest and Google Images for research.

This design was from Pinterest and it caught my eye straight away. It is so striking because of the colours and font. The black and white photography style goes with it really well. It doesn't look over fussy with too much text, the contrast between images and text is perfect. It seems interesting to read and I like the small hints of yellow.

Generating a Colour Scheme Using Coolors.co

After talking about a colour scheme in my previous blog posts that goes with my infographic on Thailand, I used an app called Coolors. I had decided to go forward with Black, Grey and Turquoise because I feel they are striking and modern colours. I think turquoise is similar to the colour of the sea in photos of Thailand which is why I thought it would be a nice striking colour that would match the style of my infographic.

The image above is created by using www.coolors.co. Click the link and use space bar to search through different colours, click the lock to keep the colours that you like and it will match it with beautifully contrasting colours. Keep locking them until you have the colours you like, you can also copy and paste pantone codes into the box if you already have an exact colour that you would like to match.

Deciding On A Theme For My Infographic

In June I am venturing to Thailand volunteering in primary schools for 6 weeks, I have never been to Thailand so there is a lot for me to learn about the culture before I go. I thought why not kill two birds with one stone and base my infographic on travelling to Thailand and hints and tips about the culture.

I found this particular infographic to be really exciting and it kept me interested to read the whole thing.

I really like the turquoise colour because it reminds me of the sea. I don't like the yellow/cream/gold combination with the blue. I think I will use the turquoise colour in my infographic but make it a lot brighter with the greys that I mentioned in the blog post called 'Coffee Bean Infographic'.

Coffee Bean Infographic

I spent a long time researching different infographics, and this one in particular caught my eye.

The colour palette is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, I love how they have used 2 shades of grey and a striking colour. Greys are in trend at the moment and the striking salmon pink colour catches your eye and makes it look bold and interesting.

The flat design style is neat, modern and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. And the illustrations are clear because they aren't too fussy.

First Blog Post

This blog is currently for the purpose of my University course and for now I will just be posting about things that relate to the current design briefs set out on my course. Once the course has finished I will continue to keep blogging about my journey as a Graphic Designer.

I will be posting about the work I have done, cool stuff I've seen, useful career tips and generally anything that inspires me throughout my final year at University.
